ImageBack in the UK the Rave War is still going on. With the Easter weekend looming, Police chiefs in the South East of England warned promoters that there would be a major crackdown on free party activity. Back in the UK the Rave War is still going on. With the Easter weekend looming, Police chiefs in the South East of England warned promoters that there would be a major crackdown on free party activity. "I will do all within my power to ensure they [organizers] face prosecution for holding such an event" said the Deputy Divisional Commander of the Essex Police?s Mobile Division.

However, it's not just the organizers facing charges, as Police also threatened to prosecute anyone attending with whatever they could pin on them - for example, flattening grass when parking their car in a field could be construed as Criminal Damage, meaning fines, court appearances and a criminal record - which seems a rather harsh penalty for the crime of wanting to get out and listen to music in a relaxed and free environment.

Still, it would seem that public opinion is gradually starting to shift in favour of the party-goers, as comments from local residents on the Essex Gazette website indicate that popular opinion feels that too much police time is being spent persecuting partygoers who although at worst noisy and untidy, do not constitute the threat to society that youth antisocial behaviour left unchecked on housing estates and in town centres is currently presenting.
