PAWNSHOP Fridays new resident DJ, Alicia Hush has been seemingly quick to arrive on the Toronto electronic music scene and in truth, is quick to arrive having just moved to TO under a year ago to focus on her Music + DJing. What many do not know, is that while Alicia Hush is very much a new kid on the block, she is anything but a new kid to the decks.. DJing for over 8 years, alicia got her start in Kitchener playing at friends parties. Basement parties turned into club gigs in 2002 and club gigs turned residencies around Kitchener which turned into a few Toronto , traveling to Taiwan she continued to DJ being voted best foreign female DJ by Taipei Times. Alicia's return to Canada in 2006 however did not provide her the same distinction and marked the beginnings of a musical transition back in to what would be the place of passionate connect that inspires her sets to this day... Struggling to emerge out of her shell initially, this talented technician turned a slow start into a full on unrelenting sprint into herself and the sound she had first loved... Coming full circle with confidence and influence, Alicia Hush is making her mark behind the decks across this City with her minimal bass-bouncy-tech-tweaky sounds. This girl is definitely one to watch evolve.

HushLamb Productions: Alicia Hush and Sarah Lamb joining forces to throw bs free, music focused, bouncing, beat driven, body shakin, flop frenzied events!
For those who wanna know, here is our story :
Alicia and I met on a dance floor. Vibed off eachothers style and mutual tendancy to dance into a sweaty mess... connected instantly.
Music took us over and friendship followed.......not too long after that introduction, after a night of sweatin to one of TO's talented DJS, we returned to suite 303 to chill down, vibe to some beats and ease into sleepy time....convos sparked as per our custom and talk of Alicia Hush the DJ began.
At this point, Alicia had been playing for a while but couldn't really break into the TO scene. She had just returned from DJing in Taiwan and was living in KDub and her sound was not really opening doors in TO...she was getting a lot of requests for vocals and less techy sounds... and she was doing her best but was starting to lose the love in trying to work her sound around...
I guess you could say she was at a bit of a musical crossroads when she and i got talking about me giving this management thing a whirl... but with nothing to lose we figured, let's do it - i'd manage dj alicia hush - decided we should get a little name and came up with hushlamb productions.....had no idea what we were producing but we figured it was something to do with music and smiles and dancing and good vibes so we rolled with it........
And like any dj/management team who can't land a gig......we started throwing our own parties...
A year later, here we are.......and really more importantly to me, i can say to you all with pride, here she is, MS ALICIA HUSH!
As HushLamb, we have grown together, explored music together and we have fell in love.........In Love with the energy, the subtle tweaks, the solid bass lines, the smooth progression, the random unexpected journeys, the all out frenzied fits that this world of electronic music has offered up to us..........We have fell in love with the partiers who lose their shit when they hear that certain track, the DJS who drop it for them, the promoters who see through the fog and bring it real and most of all the dancers who keep it going..........
we love music + we love dancing and we think there is room in this city for all kinds of really good djs and all kinds of really good beats to dance to .........And without out getting too misty eyed, we sort of think it has all only just begun.........Toronto's underground is starting to clap its hands together, starting to make room for eachother in differences and in likeness, starting to bop its collective head a lil back and forth to the beat of something bigger than any one of us standing alone......and my friends, it has only just begun.....

Toronto, Ont - The Next Big Thing Bboy Festival is here and it?s bringing a flood of Canada?s most talented bboys/breakdancers to Metro Hall Square at King and John St. This event will be an all-star city versus city battle putting Toronto?s dope flavour against Montreal?s raw and explosive talent.
All elements of hip hop culture will be represented at this massive outdoor event. The highlight of the day will be the Toronto versus Montreal bboy competition presented by Back to the Underground and Mr. Big. The winning team receives $7500 in cash and prizes and the honour of taking the title as The Next Big Thing champions for their hometown.
This event is not simply about the huge competition, it is a celebration of the positive aspects of Hip Hop culture. It is about engaging our youth with a chance to be a part of the real culture.

Since 1999 Back to the Underground has held Toronto's dopest events and supported the B-boy community. Back to the Underground has create essential programing to further develop our youths knowledge of our culture and carved an industry from a grassroots community.
B2DU exposes and invigorates hip-hop culture to the nation and to the world. While presenting the grassroots elements of the culture, B2DU keeps true to its origin and still proves time and again that the appeal of the Bboy culture is universally captivating. This ability to show authenticity, while still appealing to the masses is what separates B2DU from the rest.
Being a pioneer in a market of infinite potential and limitless possibilities, B2DU uses creative visioning to shape the industry and set standards high for those that will follow. The vision is to not only to invigorate a strong industry that supports and appreciates the B-boy dance form, but also to invest in our youth and assist them in finding a passion within the enriching art that is B-boying.
In November 1992, then governor general Ray Hnatyshyn officially opened the 27-storey Metro Hall. Metro Hall now houses administrative offices for the new City of Toronto, and is the temporary site of Council meetings, until meetings move to City Hall on Queen Street in early 1999. The Access and Equity Centre (main floor, north side) is a public information centre providing answers to questions people may have about Toronto's city council or government. Tours are given every other Wednesday (when Council meets) and run about one and a half hours. Self-guided tours can be taken anytime between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. Groups should be made up of no more than 40 people. Metro Hall houses the Metro Urban Affairs Library (main floor, south side), a childcare centre (main floor, south side) and a cafeteria (main floor, north side) operated by the Marriott Group.--Faiyaz Kara

Pure Phunk Productions was born on July 27th, 2000. It was born out of love for the breakbeat and a need to help build the breaks community. Pure Phunk was a pioneer in bringing breaks to the mainstream of Toronto's dance music culture by throwing larger scale parties that focused only on one sound: The Broken Beat.
From 2000 - 2001, Pure Phunk threw a total of 7 one-off events, 4 weeklies, and collaborations with other companies for 4 more events... All in less then a year and a half! Pure Phunk exposed Toronto to such internationally acclaimed talent such as Krafty Kuts, Freddy Fresh, Soul of Man, Baby Anne, and Kelly Reverb, as well as helping a large number of up and coming DJ's get noticed. The Pure Phunk residents also proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Toronto's local breaks DJ's are among the best in the world by throwing an all local party that broke attendance records that are still in place today.
To this day, Pure Phunk has thrown nearly 40 events. They continues to bring the broken beat to the masses by throwing smaller 'niche' nights for the more mature clientele, and the also continue to collaborate with some of the largest production companies in the country.

As the newest addition to the entertainment district, Republik Nightclub is no doubt surrounded by some of the city's toughest competition when it comes to nightspots. But with its stunning decor, top-of-the-line lighting system, LCD televisions and top-notch service, Republik is already blowing their competitors out of the water.
Located next to the Paramount Theatres, Republik occupies more than 14,000 square feet divided into three rooms. The Main room is the largest, including two bars and a live performance stage. There are also about a dozen televisions hanging from the ceiling, including one enormous one mounted on the wall broadcasting live feeds from inside the club and various in-house videos. If you are looking to bust a move on the dance floor, the Main room has an open area for dancing and plays a wide variety of music including hip-hop, dance and Top 40.
The Vision room, the second of the first-floor rooms, is smaller but still has two bars and an open area to mingle.
Republik is also home to the entertainment district's largest Designated Smoking Room. The second-floor room's design is stunning and no doubt you can spend your evening up there sitting on the comfy white seats as it has music and it's own bar. The staff is constantly emptying ash trays and collecting empties so the room looks just as impressive as when you entered it.
The open concept washrooms are an experience on their own. Although there are separate entrances for men and women, while standing at the sinks you can see into each other's area. The ladies' comes fully-equipped with a station of gum, hair products, perfume, moisturizer and other necessities to keep you looking and smelling your best all evening. The mens' room includes televisions above the urinals streaming live feeds from inside the club. Although the stalls in the ladies' could use a little more lighting inside, the bathrooms are kept immaculate. The trough-like sinks, like the toilets, are automatic so no surprises when your toilet flushes on its own.
Republik's bartenders, door staff and security provide you with service that is second-to-none. Although some people may not find that as important as other aspects of a club, the staffs' friendliness can really make a difference in the type of night you experience. Another bartender at the upstairs bar wouldn't hurt, but Republik's people are outstanding, something not always common in some downtown nightspots.
If you are looking for a place that has a little something different, Republik is definitely a spot to see. No doubt your jaw will drop in awe when you first enter, as their interior and advanced technology system is breathtaking.

CiRCA is a one-of-a-kind entertainment venue and nightclub created by New York City nightlife luminary Peter Gatien in the heart of Toronto’s Entertainment District. Located inside the Festival Hall Entertainment Complex at the corner of King and John, the four-story, 55,000 square foot state-of-the-art space is an arts, music, entertainment, and fashion event-space unlike anything else in the world.
The multi-tiered space features a unique collection of facilities including large art and product display areas, multiple live event spaces and large main stage, a film screening room (SKYY Cinema Lounge), a recording studio (due to be completed in December 2007), in-house food-preparation and catering facilities, and a full range of concierge service and amenities. There can be few more stunning settings than this classy restaurant and lounge club on Queen Street. The main dining room with its towering 16ft ceilings sits about 100, with half a dozen pin-stripe-fabric booths on a slightly raised area looking down on the diners. The Latin-French influenced menu features Canadian delights such as marinated caribou, and the combination of gourmet food in a setting of exposed brick, gleaming chandeliers and bevelled mirrors make for a refined ambience. Yet this is only the beginning. Beyond the dining area is a lavish Ottoman-furnished lounge with private ?pod' areas closed in by silky curtains set under Roman-temple like columns. Upstairs meanwhile is a gorgeous rooftop patio that's straight out of Miami South Beach. Need we say more?

This 1904-built warehouse on King Street is the club of the moment, a sprawling loft space with high ceilings, aged hardwood floors, exposed orange brick walls, and gorgeous leather-banquette seating areas divided by white muslin drapes. Open as a club three nights a week, but available for private hire the rest of the time, it consists of a Front Lounge with gorgeous bay window views of the street below; an intimate Back Lounge filled with cosy low-slung couches, and a stunning tree-lined courtyard perfect for a smoke and a chat. For the elite among you there are also 14 reserved booths for VIPs or private hire. In short, no shortage of space to sip cocktails and eye out the talent.
