Pure Phunk Productions was born on July 27th, 2000. It was born out of love for the breakbeat and a need to help build the breaks community. Pure Phunk was a pioneer in bringing breaks to the mainstream of Toronto's dance music culture by throwing larger scale parties that focused only on one sound: The Broken Beat.
From 2000 - 2001, Pure Phunk threw a total of 7 one-off events, 4 weeklies, and collaborations with other companies for 4 more events... All in less then a year and a half! Pure Phunk exposed Toronto to such internationally acclaimed talent such as Krafty Kuts, Freddy Fresh, Soul of Man, Baby Anne, and Kelly Reverb, as well as helping a large number of up and coming DJ's get noticed. The Pure Phunk residents also proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Toronto's local breaks DJ's are among the best in the world by throwing an all local party that broke attendance records that are still in place today.
To this day, Pure Phunk has thrown nearly 40 events. They continues to bring the broken beat to the masses by throwing smaller 'niche' nights for the more mature clientele, and the also continue to collaborate with some of the largest production companies in the country.

As the newest addition to the entertainment district, Republik Nightclub is no doubt surrounded by some of the city's toughest competition when it comes to nightspots. But with its stunning decor, top-of-the-line lighting system, LCD televisions and top-notch service, Republik is already blowing their competitors out of the water.
Located next to the Paramount Theatres, Republik occupies more than 14,000 square feet divided into three rooms. The Main room is the largest, including two bars and a live performance stage. There are also about a dozen televisions hanging from the ceiling, including one enormous one mounted on the wall broadcasting live feeds from inside the club and various in-house videos. If you are looking to bust a move on the dance floor, the Main room has an open area for dancing and plays a wide variety of music including hip-hop, dance and Top 40.
The Vision room, the second of the first-floor rooms, is smaller but still has two bars and an open area to mingle.
Republik is also home to the entertainment district's largest Designated Smoking Room. The second-floor room's design is stunning and no doubt you can spend your evening up there sitting on the comfy white seats as it has music and it's own bar. The staff is constantly emptying ash trays and collecting empties so the room looks just as impressive as when you entered it.
The open concept washrooms are an experience on their own. Although there are separate entrances for men and women, while standing at the sinks you can see into each other's area. The ladies' comes fully-equipped with a station of gum, hair products, perfume, moisturizer and other necessities to keep you looking and smelling your best all evening. The mens' room includes televisions above the urinals streaming live feeds from inside the club. Although the stalls in the ladies' could use a little more lighting inside, the bathrooms are kept immaculate. The trough-like sinks, like the toilets, are automatic so no surprises when your toilet flushes on its own.
Republik's bartenders, door staff and security provide you with service that is second-to-none. Although some people may not find that as important as other aspects of a club, the staffs' friendliness can really make a difference in the type of night you experience. Another bartender at the upstairs bar wouldn't hurt, but Republik's people are outstanding, something not always common in some downtown nightspots.
If you are looking for a place that has a little something different, Republik is definitely a spot to see. No doubt your jaw will drop in awe when you first enter, as their interior and advanced technology system is breathtaking.

There can be few more stunning settings than this classy restaurant and lounge club on Queen Street. The main dining room with its towering 16ft ceilings sits about 100, with half a dozen pin-stripe-fabric booths on a slightly raised area looking down on the diners. The Latin-French influenced menu features Canadian delights such as marinated caribou, and the combination of gourmet food in a setting of exposed brick, gleaming chandeliers and bevelled mirrors make for a refined ambience. Yet this is only the beginning. Beyond the dining area is a lavish Ottoman-furnished lounge with private ?pod' areas closed in by silky curtains set under Roman-temple like columns. Upstairs meanwhile is a gorgeous rooftop patio that's straight out of Miami South Beach. Need we say more?

Well, it?s been 5 years since the inception of this e-community. We remember when it started as a small group of friends in Toronto just posting back and forth to see who could hit 100 posts first. LOL!!! That was certainly a while ago, and yet here we are several years later?still posting, listening, lurking, surfing, and well?.PARTYING!
There are a million things we could write here to remind ourselves of the roller-coaster ride we?ve been on over the past 5-years, but quite frankly, we know you?re not all here to read up on the history of HouseAddict (go to the site to do that). One thing that does come to mind is the state of Toronto?s EDM when this site started. It seemed that we were in a bit of a recession (to say the least), and very few clubs we making it. Friday nights seemed to be dominated by System Sound Bar and Film Lounge, while Saturdays tended to move towards The Drink, and of course the BANG events also hosted at System Sound Bar. In a few short years though, Toronto?s EDM scene evolved once again, and sprung out from under its rock. Within this evolution, local residents began to pick up their game, and new venues were popping up everywhere (Boa/Sonic, Footwork Bar & Afterhours?the list goes on though). The Toronto sound seemed to move into an up-tempo and hard-hitting groove.
Our 5-year anniversary really is a celebration of all genres of electronic music, and in saying that, we?re going to touch on a historic feel of the progressive house that many of us used to, and still do love. We?ve teamed up with the EXPOSED crew at MOD Club with the hopes of delivering a quality experience for anyone who is interested. John Creamer and partner Stephane K are perfect for this event as they bring their chugging and unrelenting thick basslines to an event that will really appreciate their sound.
We hope to see all of you on September 19th at MOD Club to celebrate the past, present, and future of what Toronto has to offer to the listeners, the head-bobbers, the dancers, and the wild ass partiers!!!!

Three and a half months, 15 parties in, EXPOSED is right on track to become a long lasting, dare we say legendary, promotion. It might be too early to use such a dramatic descriptive, but as a team we?re extremely happy with how things are progressing and we certainly look forward to an awesome month of December to close out 2007.
The Scene
We?ve come up against a lot of competition in our early months. Footwork has re-branded their Friday night, This is London has ramped up their guest line-ups in recent weeks and of course there was the long awaited opening of the super club Circa in October. For as much pressure and stress all of these clubs place on our efforts at Mod Club, the crazy Toronto nightlife this fall made us step up our game.
We all feel the stronger the scene is as a whole, the better it is for each individual promotion. There are definitely more than enough clubbers in this city to fill each club, every night. We as promoters simply need to keep it fresh and quality, giving punters many reasons to come out, and as a result, all the venues will benefit.
Our Promotion
The debate still rages on to whether or not print advertising is worth the money and hassle. Postering seemed to work in November, and was almost necessary with the high level (and paid) artists we brought in. However, we?re all in agreement that the CDs we?ve been pressing are the most effective way of tangible advertisement, as they have a much longer life and educate the floor as to who and what they?ll be hearing at EXPOSED.
Supplying music in all its forms is the way to build a strong and loyal club following and thanks to the artists who have been offering their music we?ve built up quite a collection of sets on our Downloads page. Most notable would be the EXPOSED.live sets from Neil Quigley, HOLOSOUND and our own Jeff Button. What better way to get the word out about the night, then to get the actual event on the Internet airwaves? Thanks for the awesome contributions guys.

The night club lives up to its name with Mod themed artwork splashed on the walls and all the latest Brit indie, pop, rock and electronic pumping on a Saturday night.
The Mod Club also moonlights as an intimate concert venue with bands like Yellowcard, Keane, Wilco, The Killers, Mertic, Ben Harper and Stars all having played on the Mod Club stage.
